On November 6, 2018, Florida voters went to the polls and cast a historic vote in favor of restoring voting rights to 1.4 million Floridians convicted of felonies. Two months later, the fruits of that victory bore fruit as Desmond Meade, President of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), a grantee of the Art for Justice Fund, officially registered to vote.
“I can get my sons and I can get my wife and I can get my daughter, and I can take them with me and I can go vote with my family for the first time. And that means a lot to me. That means, not only that I can vote, but this is an opportunity that we have now to stimulate a conversation about how important voting is in this country and our community.”
