Since 1875 The Art Students League has ensured affordable access to apprentice-style professional arts training for people at all stages of their life and career. The League has a long tradition of disrupting social inequities and fostering an environment in which dissident artists can thrive. The League’s ethos—which privileges process over product, prioritizes empathy, and emphasizes collective, democratic learning—fortifies its students’ ability to build careers in the art world that are both sustainable and meaningful.
The Art Students League of New York invited the Art for Justice Fund to mount a series of public art installations on the façade and interior of the League’s building located on a busy corridor of West 57th Street. In the coming years, Art Students League may facilitate a set of temporary public art installations, with accompanying education and public programs that sparke dialogue about issues related to criminal justice, reaching youth and families directly impacted by the justice system.
