Topeka Sam Interviewed About Her Work on the First Step Act

The New York magazine podcast The Cut on Tuesdays interviewed Topeka Sam, founder of Ladies of Hope Ministries, and Holly Harris, the conservative Executive Director of Justice Action Network, about the bipartisan effort to enact criminal justice reform.

Sam and Harris both played roles in passing the First Step Act, which reduces mandatory minimums, makes it easier for families to visit loved ones, and allows people who have been incarcerated to leave jail early for good behavior.

Ladies of Hope Ministries is the recipient of a promoting reentry grant from the Art for Justice Fund. The organization provides resources and support to disenfranchised and marginalized women and girls as they transition back into society.
